Construction of a community garden at DeFilippo Park is currently underway.
Once completed, North End residents, who have been cooped up at home, due to the Covid pandemic, can get out and grow their own fruits and vegetables, according to the North End Waterfront (Parents) Association of Boston (NEWMA).
“A community garden will allow residents and others to get outdoors, get exercise, connect with nature and do something good for themselves and the planet,†the group noted.
The outdoor garden will be located near the large stone walls in the park.
Raised garden beds will be built with fencing installed around them to protect the plants.
NEWMA is also planning to purchase flowers, trees and perennial plants to enhance the beauty of the park.
Friends of DeFilippo Park are raising money to develop a community garden. Funds are being accepted to continue the project. For more information email newma@googlegroups.com.
Friends of the Park, Jason Aliuia, Michael D’Elia, Michael Bonetti, John Romano and Camdele Construction were recognized for their efforts to develop the outdoor garden.
