A unanimous vote of 9-0 was taken by the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWRA) at its Oct. 15 monthly meeting to support a request by Douglas X. Scire seeking to erect a first-floor rear addition at 23 Unity St.
However, the second request on the agenda didn’t fare as well.
A request to change the occupancy at 49 Charter St. from a six-family residential dwelling to an eight-family residential dwelling was denied by NEWNC by a vote of 5-3.
Plans also included the erection on the one-story addition, legalizing the existing basement living space, and to renovate the building including a full sprinkler system.
Bill Zukker, Esq. and Michael Leon, Esq. discussed legislation filed by Representative Aaron Michlewitz that would preserve the 40-year grandfathered uses of Commercial Wharf.
Commercial Wharf Condominium Association is seeking to retain their home through the bill that is scheduled for a hearing at the end of October.
NEWNC did not act on the request for support but apparently, they are considering sending a letter.
The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Monday, November 12 at 7 PM at the Nazzaro Community Center.
