Local Residents Should Make Their Way to ‘Open Newbury Street’ Stroll

Many events and activities are available for the North End/Waterfront residents to enjoy in their backyard, The Greenway, Christopher Columbus Park, feasts, parades, recreations events and much more.

There is another special event being held, “Open Newbury Street” Stroll, a short distance from the neighborhood that can be enjoyed.

Following three years of success, “Open Newbury Street” a strolling and shopping experience will take place on two Sundays this summer from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 25, and September 15.

Newbury Street will be pedestrian only from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue allowing participants the opportunity to use the full width of the street.

“This series (a family event) has become an anticipated summer event and I hope residents and visitors will be able to experience all that “Open Newbury Street” has to offer,” Mayor Martin Walsh said.

Besides strolling and shopping many restaurants will be set up outside and many activities will be available to participate in.

Parking will be restricted during each event and the public is encouraged to utilize the several MBTA routes that service the area, walking or bicycling.

Police Prepare to Make Feasts Safe

District A-1 Boston Police are geared up to help make local feasts safe and enjoyable for the thousands of people that attend them.

Police are prepared to tackle any and all potential problems during these community religious festivals on the streets of the North End and the processions that occur through the streets of the area as well.

Police have already held meetings with the societies, the Mayor’s Office, residents, businesses and those selling products in the feast location.
