Saint Anthony Society celebrating 100th anniversary

There are many feasts in the North End each year, however, there is simply nothing that compares to the Feast of Saint Anthony that draws thousands of people to the neighborhood.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the number of feast goers is expected to increase for this spectacular festival.

The Society is expected to be honored for their century anniversary by many elected officials and several neighborhood organizations. Rightly so.

Loud rooftop parties not acceptable

One of the negative things about summer, it generates unwelcome and rooftop parties that can get loud, disturbing abutters peace and tranquility.

These private parties usually turn out to be beer, wine and cocktail parties that sometimes go on into the early morning hours intruding on neighbors trying to get some sleep.

Those encountering loud rooftop parties should call the police and put them to a quick end.

Feasts are traditions but must be controlled

As usual, there will be many feasts held in the North End this summer that will attract thousands of people into the neighborhood.

These highly festive religious events must be totally controlled especially for public safety reasons.

A lot of trash and debris will clutter the neighborhood that needs to be picked up at the end of the night and/or early morning for health reasons and to control rats from dining in the middle of the streets.

Everyone needs to help out, the city, businesses, vendors, societies and residents as well.

Multi-sports program offered at Center

North End teenagers 13-18 should take advantage of the multi-sports program being put together by the Nazzaro Community Center each Thursday from July 8 through August 30 from 10 AM to 2 PM.

The program offers eight sports activities for teens to plan a day of recreational fun and experience.

Eight sports activities are part of the recreational programs.

Dog owners can enjoy the convenience of              the Canine Park

Many local dog owners during the summer will take their canines to the newly built dog park located between Prince and Snow Hill Streets.

Users must abide by the rules and regulations of the park to keep it clean and secure.

Using the dog park is a special place to utilize and at the same time help keep the neighborhood healthy and cleaner.

Police do a great job in the community

Neighborhood policing has a solid record of success reducing crime in communities, like the North End/Waterfront where Part 1 Crime has consistently decreased over the years.

District A1 police have made this possible by getting involved in the neighborhood on a first-hand basis with community organizations and events to ensure public safety is a top priority.

Police conduct a monthly community meeting providing crime related information and tips to help keep the crime rate low. Police do not get the credit they deserve for the great job they do in the neighborhood.
