Great Molasses Spill Memorial Being Proposed for North End

Currently, there is a move to place a new memorial relating to the Great Molasses Spill that took place over 100 years ago in the North End.

By a show of hands members all of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) overwhelming supported the idea at their January public meeting.

NEWRA also supported the placing of a memorial on the North End part of the Harborwalk near the basketball court, adjacent to the Mirabella Pool.

The deadly incident, is a part of the history of the North End that made worldwide news.

The proposal is still being researched but residents will be able to review the design proposal before it is presented for approval by the necessary agencies.
