NEWRA Supports Salem Street Request for Retail Liquor Store

One voting item was on the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting held on Monday, August 9 in the Nazzaro Community Center.

A President’s Report, Parks and Open Spaces Committee, and a Zoning, Licensing and Construction reports were presented.

A request by Frank Scire, owner of Going Bananas Market, 64 Salem Street, to change the legal occupancy to take-out and a retail liquor store was supported by the Association.

Representative Aaron Michlewitz gave an update on the State’s Airbnb legislation.

Other discussions raised concerns with the planned use of artificial turf being place at Puopolo Park.

NEWRA plans to send a letter to Mayor Walsh suggesting regular grass be placed instead.

The Boston Parks Department has met several times with residents to discuss renovation plans along the Commercial Street recreational area. At those meetings, artificial turf was supported by people that attended the public meeting.

The North End Athletic Association (NEAA) was in full support of the plan to use the artificial.

NEWRA encourages all North End/Waterfront residents to become active members and participate in their neighborhood meetings. Meetings are open, and all are welcome!  For more information, contact [email protected].
