Home Rule Petition    Will Create 153 New Liquor Licenses

Both the North End and Waterfront community may not be eligible if the City of Boston passes a Home Rule petition for an additional 153 new liquor licenses being proposed.

The Petition Was Filed by Large Boston City Councilor Avanna Pressley. The vast majority (80%) of new licenses will be restricted to historically underserved neighborhoods.

Mayor’s Youth Council Applications Available

Boston teens can apply to become a member of Mayor Martin Walsh’s youth Council, a group of 85 high school students that participate in government and civic engagement to improving the community.

To become a member of the Youth Council, students must be a Boston resident, entering grades 9-12 and participate in a group interview. New applicants must submit a letter of recommendation.

Senator Boncore Votes to Protect Puppies     and Kittens

State Senator Joe Boncore voted in favor of the bill ensuring that puppies and kittens are bread and sold in a safe and healthy environment and strengthening the current “Puppy Women Block” to give pet owners additional options if they unknowingly purchase a sick pet.

This bill is the result of extensive discussion with both breeders and animal rights activists to protect puppies, kittens, and owners across the state.

House Adopts Sexual Harassment Policies

The House of Representatives unanimously approved a measure that requires them to promote the safety and respectful treatment of all members, offices, interns, employees and all 3rd parties by establishing uniform procedures for making and receiving complaints of harassment and initiating, conducting and including investigations into complaints of harassment.

The measure states the House is committed to providing sphere in equal opportunities for employment of all fleas and applicants.

MBTA Faster Trips          on Buses

The MBTA has taken a major step towards implementing a new system that will simply fare collection and improve the delivery of transit service by reaching a commercial and financial agreement with the consortium of Cuhic/ John Laing on a multi-year contract for the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of a new Automated Fare Collection system, known as AFC 2.0.

            The new system will be compatible with all MBTA transit molds, will provide fare payment flexibility and will have more fare media options for use.
