NEAA 2018 Baseball Registration is Now Underway

“It’s that time of year for local youths to register to participate in the 2018 North End Athletic Association (NEAA) Baseball Program for players ages 4-21. How old participants are by April 30, will determine what division a player will be placed,” according to Commissioner Ralph Martignetti.

            “The NEAA has a number of programs offered under its baseball umbrella, primarily based on age, however, a player can be moved to another division during the season if the player is ready to play against better competition, determined by the Commissioner and coaches,” Martignetti explained.

            One of the programs is a baseball clinic for 4-year-olds on Sundays from 10 AM to 12 PM starts May 5 running through June 24. “The clinic offers basic skills like catching and throwing, while deploring a love for the game,” the Commissioner said.

            On Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 PM (same time frame as the clinic) T-ball for 5-year-old participants will take place.

            When a player turns 6-7 they play in the Minor League which is a coach pitched league with games at Puopolo Park on Monday-Thursday at 5:30 PM and usually ending about 7 PM with teams playing twice a week.

            Then there’s the Junior League for 8-9-year-olds. This is a player coach pitched league that plays on the same day and time as the Minor’s, Monday-Thursday at 5:30 PM playing twice a week.

            The Majors, 10-12-year-olds also play Monday-Thursday at 6 PM at Langone Field.

            Players 13-21 are eligible to play in the Dodgers program which plays home and away games. This program is made up of several team brackets that play in a competitive level of baseball designed to get players ready to play high school and/or college baseball.

            The official baseball ceremony will be held on April 28 in Puopolo Park at 12 noon, however, different programs will open the season starting at 10 AM.

            “The NEAA has some fantastic volunteer coaches who give the players all they have with the focus on primarily developing a love for the game,” Martignetti noted. “The fee is $50 which provides a jersey, and solid baseball programs,” he added.
