Senator Boncore Named Chair of Joint Committee on Housing

By Phil Orlandella

Senator Joseph A. Boncore has been named Chairman of the Joint Committee on Housing by Senate President Stan Rosenberg.

Senator Boncore, whose district includes the North End, said “I am honored to chair this committee.”

He noted, “It will be a great opportunity to work on the needs of both Greater Boston and the Commonwealth.”

He added, “With the continued rapid growth in the region housing stock, affordability and development are critical concerns for our communities.”

As rapid development continues in greater Boston, the committee’s substance remains an area of top priority to the First Suffolk and Middlesex District. It oversees all matters relating to public housing, housing production, homelessness, Chapter 40B housing, landlord-tenant matters, expiring use and condominium laws.

Boncore’s legislative portfolio touches a wide range of policy priorities from criminal justice reform to healthcare and prescription drug transparency. In addition to his chairmanship, Boncore will serve as the Senate Vice Chair on the Joint Committee on Transportation. Senator Boncore was also appointed to serve on the Financial Services, Revenue and Global Warming & Climate Change Committees.

Since elected, the Senator has been actively committed to working with North End residents and community organizations on neighborhood endeavors, activities and concerns.
