Friends of Christopher Columbus Park Host Free Six-Week Restorative Yoga Series

The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) will host six restorative yoga classes on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. from July 7 through August 11.  The free classes are open to everyone and will be led by Barbara Dummermuth, owner of Laughing Buddha Boston, the Swiss Healing Center located in the North End.  The theme of the classes is “Relax, Restore and Recharge.”

Sponsored by local healthcare provider One Medical Group, the goal of these classes is to gently strengthen and stretch the connective tissues, ligaments, sinews, muscles and joints.  “The beauty of this class is that it can be taken by anyone even without prior yoga experience,” says Ms. Dummermuth. “It is not about performance but about listening and experiencing your own body and its potential. The slow and repetitive routine can be very challenging. It will help the student reach a depth and awareness of the body normally not achieved with the regular yoga routines.”

Participants need to wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat, blanket or towel and an open mind.

The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) is an all-volunteer non-profit organization comprised of North End and Waterfront residents and businesses whose purpose is to further the restoration, protection, preservation, care, enhancement, improvement, and maintenance of the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.  The FOCCP works closely with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department to keep the Park clean and well maintained, and with other city and state organizations to improve the Park to enrich the lives of both residents and visitors to Boston.
