Protecting Employees from Illegal Practices Sends a Good Message

The protection steps for workers employed by businesses that have been issued a food and/or liquor license in the City of Boston that would illegally deny fairly earned wages is a solid policy that will protect workers from this practice.

This measure will expand on Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s wage theft put in place in 2014.

New requirements and penalties for non-compliance should get the job done by creating another tool to hold employers accountable to do the right thing for their employees.

The Boston Licensing Board and the Office of Workforce Development will oversee a protection plan that will require new and established businesses to sign a form of compliance under the penalty of perjury.

Protecting workers from these illegal practices is a giant step in the right direction.
