ABCD’s Grandparent Program Celebrates Half a Century of Service

The Regional Review recognizes the effects of Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) on its half a century of caring through its Foster Grandparent Program and the hundreds of volunteers that were recently honored for their dedicated services over 50 years of providing quality service to youth.

Foster grandparents (low-income-seniors) are volunteers age 55 and above are matched with children in schools, day care centers, health centers and Head Start sites for 20 hours each week.

They spend quality time offering help with literacy, social and emotional support, mentorship, guardians and simple companionship to young people. They also take part in recreational and social activities including breakfast for parents and field trips with their foster grandchildren.

ABCD’s program has without question made a valuable contribution to the lives of children’s and the senior volunteers as well.
