Head Start Celebrates 50 of Service

Head Start, a program of Action of Boston Community recently celebrated fifty years (1965-2015) of providing low-income children and their families on the path to success in school and life.

Head Start has served tens of thousands of children from Boston from disadvantaged families, making hope and opportunity a part of everyday life who struggle to make ends meet.

For most of those fifty-years Head Start operated a program in the North End at several sites and it was a valuable asset to the neighborhood.

The program has been applauded as one of the greatest success on the war of poverty and rightly so.

It is also considered the “gold standard” of early education programs and stands as a model for early childhood achievement.

Head Start was designed to fight the effects of poverty for low-income families and for fifty years it has accomplished its mission, and its legacy continues.
