District A-1Boston Police Praised at Community Meeting

District A-1 Boston Police Commanding Officer Ken Fong updated residents on the 77 Endicott Street home invasion where a white male from Somerville accidentally shot himself in the foot with a shotgun while leaving the scene.

Two local residents that heard the shot took the license plate of the getaway vehicle which was eventually located by police and an arrest was made.

Captain Fong told residents at the monthly North End Public Safety meeting the case is still under investigation but noted three African Americans who were wheedling knives are suspects in the case.

The incident allegedly involved marijuana stolen from the Endicott Street apartment. Captain Fong said, “Eventually the tenant will be arrested for drug related crimes.”

He also noted that Part One Crimes in District A-1 which includes the North End are down 27 percent and citywide by 21 percent.

Statistics handed out at the meeting indicated that five arrest had been made during the month of April. One each in the categories of larceny from a motor vehicle, an assault with a dangerous weapon, a warrant, shoplifting and robbery/firearm.

Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina praised District A-1 Police for the outstanding job they are doing in the North End/Waterfront community.

The next Public Safety meeting will be held on Thursday, July 2 at 6pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
