Greenway Has a Successful 2014

The Greenway Art Wall.

It’s been an amazing year for the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, which is becoming a world-class park.

The popular park, which attracts thousands of residents and visitors each year, provided numerous activities throughout the year.

Inspiring artists brought innovative public art to the Greenway.

Shinique Smith’s new mural on the Greenway wall, “The Fence” photography exhibition in the North End and the thrilling interactive work of the FIGMENT festival were enjoyed by all.

In addition, the Conservancy, in keeping the momentum going, with world-renowned local artist Janet Echelman, whose massive sculpture will be suspended over the Greenway from May through October. 2015.

In fact, the Conservancy, had such a good year for art they hired their own Public Art Curator, Lucas Cowan.

The Conservancy also launched a Park Ranger Program and expanded their volunteer program and hired their first full time Volunteer Coordinator Keelin Purcell.

Over 300 free events were held on the Greenway from food truck throwdowns to exercise classes, local farmers markets and block parties totaling over 938,000 visitors.

The Greenway Carousel at the Tiffany + Company Foundation Grove celebrated its first birthday with over 100,000 riders.

Its organic horticulture program continues to thrive, loading the soil with 13,000 gallons of rich compost tea, created 208 gorgeous plant containers, placed over 40,000 bulbs in the ground all with the help of 3,000 volunteers.

The Conservancy is grateful for the efforts everyone has done to make 2014 an incredible year for the Greenway.
