Salem Street Bike Route Planned

Boston Bikes, part of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s vision for a vibrant and healthy city that benefits all its citizens by seeking to make the city a world-class bicycling city by creating safe and inviting conditions for everyone, plans to install bike paving markings on Salem Street from cross to Charter Streets this fall.

Work will take place over one to three nights with no impact to parking, no travel lanes will be removed and no traffic impact.

“Shared marking lanes are pavement markings that designate the road for use between cyclist and vehicles,” according to Boston Bikes.

“The bike pavement markings are being installed because the Cross Street Hubway station is one of the most popular stations in the entire city,” once again according to Boston Bikes.

“The markings are aimed to provide a safe alternative to Hanover Street and the plan is consistent with recommendations in the Boston Bikes Network Plan” Boston Bikes noted in an advisory.

Apparently, there were no public meetings held in the North End on this subject.
