Archeologist Unearths Artifacts in North End

Artifacts that can hopefully provide a better look at 1700 Boston were uncovered in Boston’s North End.

This past spring, during two-weeks of digging, city archeologist Joseph Bagley and a group of volunteers collected thousands of items behind the Clough House from the early neighborhood days.

Reportedly, the whole back yard at 21 Unity Street was a trash dump that included items of everyday in the 1700s life like animals bones, doll parts and numerous chips and fragments of dishes and cups. A gun flint, possibly from the Revolutionary War was unearthed as well.

The lot which has never been built on, is owned by the Old North Church which was planning to build a new public walkway to the rear of the home.

Reportedly, under the deed, archeologist had to study the area before any work could proceed.

The church has already begun constructing the walkway in place.
