Scams Target Boston Residents

The City of Boston and Mayor Menino have denounced any relationship with a company called GE Security Systems, or Versatile Market Solutions, Inc. of Warwick, RI that are apparently attempting to scam Boston residents especially the elderly.

Reportedly, victims are being offered a free prize which includes a large amount of money, a new car or property.

Victims are then instructed by the caller to go to a local convenience store and purchase Green Dot Money Pack (a reloadable credit card. After the card is purchased, victims are instructed to call 702-330-9199 and provide the serial number of the prepaid card. Once that occurs the subject is given access to the account and money.

This is a scam according to Boston Police and they encourage anyone who has received this type of phone call to call 911 immediately.
