Nunziato Orlando

Fought Long and Courageous Battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Nunziato Orlando of East Boston died on February 7 after a long and courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was 33 years old.

A 1996 graduate of St. Domenic Savio High School and a 1998 graduate of Newbury College, he was the cherished son of Salvatore and Tindara (Crisafulli) Orlando and devoted brother of Saverio and Maria Tindara Orlando, all of East Boston; loving grandson of Saverio Crisafulli and Salvatora D’Amico of Italy and the late Nunziato Orlando and Maria Lararra. He is also survived by many adored aunts, uncles cousins and his pet dog, Peppino.

Jeannette Onessimo

Of Malden, formerly of the North End

Jeannette M. Onessimo of Malden, formerly of the North End. died on February 1.

She was the beloved mother of Albert and Gianna Onessimo and Justin; loving sister of Constance Casto, Irene Carini, Lilian and Paul Parzele, brothers Edward, Joseph, Richard, Thomas and Vincent and the late Salvatore, Angelo, Anthony Jr., Henry and William; cherished aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Gaffey Memorial Funeral Home, Medford Square. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. She may be remembered through the Dialysis Clinic Inc, Patient Care Fund, 35 Kneeland Street, Boston, MA 02111.

Louise DeBenedictis

Former Den Mother

Louise F. (Fasoli) DeBenedictis, a long time Revere resident, died unexpectedly on February 5 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 82 years old.

Born and raised in Boston’s North End, she attended school here before moving to East Boston and then to Revere more than 45 years ago.

Mrs. DeBenedictis worked as a private homemaker for several years and was a Den Mother for the Revere Boy Scouts who met at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall.

She was the beloved wife of 63 years of Leonard V. “Leo” DeBenedictis; cherished mother of Steven L. DeBenedictis of Jackson, NH and his partner, Suzanne Huntoon of Bartlett, NH; Leonard T. Benedictis and his wife, Candace of Groveland and Paul J. DeBenedictis and his wife, Christina of Byfield; the devoted grandmother of Amy Mansmann and her husband, Michael of East Burke, Vermont, Benjamin DeBenedictis of Burlington, VT., Samuel Debenedictis of Groveland, Emily and Carly DeBenedictis, both of Byfield and is also lovingly survived by her faithful feline companion “Honey” and many nieces and nephews.

Maria Lucia Ceccarossi

Maria Lucia (DeInnocentis) Ceccarossi of Revere died on February 6 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 81 years old.

Born in Orsogna, Italy on Oct. 19, 1930, she immigrated to Boston’s North End when she was six years old. Her family later moved to Malden where she attended high school.

On May 1, 1949, she married the late Philip C. Ceccarossi who died in 2003. The couple built a home in Revere on American Legion Highway and raised four children there and where she lived ever since. For more than 20 years, she worked for HubMail, a direct mail advertising company in Boston and she retired in 1988 as a supervising manager.

Famous for her cooking, for decades she has hosted her entire family for Sunday dinner and celebrated holidays, especially Christmas Eve, with enormous spreads of Italian food and pastries. When her husband was still alive, they often had friends over for dinner and card games and she was well known as fierce competition during a round of cribbage.

When her family was younger, she took regular trips with friends and relatives to a vacation house in Denmark, Maine that her husband had designed and built for the family. She was an avid Red Sox fan, loved crossword puzzles, reading, taking trips to Foxwoods and knitting, especially for her great-grandchildren. She had a reputation for her sharp tongue, her wry sense of humor and her expansive vocabulary.

She leaves four children: Joanne Sarmanian and her husband, Robert of Woburn, Philip Ceccarossi and his wife, Brenda of Pensacola, Florida, Robert Ceccarossi of Revere, Lynne Cardinale and her husband, Andrew of Saugus; nine grandchildren: Robert Sarmanian and his wife, Josephine of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Todd Sarmanian and his wife, Valentina of Revere, Traci MacCauley and her husband, Joe of Wilmington; Bruce Ceccarossi and his wife, Amanda of Peabody, Kristi Ceccarossi and her, partner Darry Madden of Cambridge, Marc Ceccarossi of Peabody, Larissa Dewar and her husband, Tom of Norton, Andrew Cardinale and Ens. Craig Cardinale, both of Saugus. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and many other friends and family members.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, her parents, Agostino and Lucia DeInnocentis, and her brothers, Angelo and Rocco DeInnocentis and a sister, Nicoletta Salerno.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Buonfiglio Funeral Home of Revere. Entombment was at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.

Grace M. (Maffeo) Franzosa of Malden died on February 3.

She was the beloved wife of Frank R. and loving mother of Cheryl A. Tomolilo and her husband, John of Tewksbury, and Michael J. Franzosa of Malden; sister of the late Pat and Carmen Maffeo, Mary Loconte, Florence DePaolis, and Celia Testa, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Frank J. Pio of Melrose, formerly of Somerville, died on February 5.

He was the cherished son of Diana (Lepore) Pio of Melrose and the late Joseph Pio; loving brother of Angela Bravo of Somerville and her late husband, Manuel, Janice Cecere and her husband, Robert of Lynnfield and Gina Russo and her husband, Joseph of Malden; dear uncle of Robert J. Cecere and Joseph and Nicholas Russo.
