NEAD Fundraiser Set for Sterite Rink, January 29

North End Against Drugs (NEAD) is putting together a fundraiser at the Sterite Skating Rink on Commercial Street which will include a good old fashion Bocce Tournament at the cost of $10 per player.

Each player will receive a NEAD t-shirt and winners will receive trophies. Teams will be made up of four players per team. There will be a limited number of Bocce spaces available, according to NEAD President John Romano.

The fundraiser will include a raffle, bake sale, music by the Nazzaro Center Band and community organization tables. The event is free.

Romano noted that there will be a limited number of table for rent for vendors and merchants to sell their products. No food or beverage can be sold at these tables.

Fred White from the North End Skate Shop will donate a portion of the proceeds from the snack shack to NEAD.

“For all you football fans, the NEAD event is being held on the bye-week before the Super Bowl,” Romano said.

The event will be held on Sunday, January 29 from 2-5pm.

Jan. community meetings planned

There are many community committee public meetings scheduled during the month of January 2012.

All these monthly meetings deal with any and all neighborhood issues, endeavors, problems, concerns and programs.

It all starts with the NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 3 at 7pm.

Next there is the NEWNC Boston Police Public Safety meeting on Thursday, January 5 at 6:30pm.

The NEWNC monthly Council meeting will be held on Monday, January 9 at 7pm.

NEWRA monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 12 at 7pm.

All the above meetings will be held in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

January NEWRA Clean Streets Committee meeting has been cancelled. The next monthly meeting will be held in February.

All residents are invited to these meetings to participate in the discussions, express opinions or make suggestions.
