Boston Police Sergeant Thomas Lema, no stranger to the North End/Waterfront community, was recently honored by the Boston Municipal Research Bureau with a Public Service Award.
Sgt. Lema was presented the annual Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award for his work serving the downtown area’s diverse community, particularly for his work with the homeless.
Lema built partnerships with public and private agencies to offer help to the homeless population that has increased in the downtown area.
The City’s longest serving community service supervisor, also noted for his work in the North End with the Public Safety Committee, attending eleven monthly meetings a year usually with Area A-1 Commanding Officer Captain Bernard O’Rourke and Officer Ted Boyle.
Local residents and community groups have also recognized and commended Sgt. Lema over the years for his outstanding and dedicated work and support for the neighborhood.
