Playoff Round-Up

North End 10-Medfield 3

Spotting Medfield a three run first inning lead the North End came back scoring in every inning but the 1st for a 10-3 victory moving on to the next playoff round versus an 8-2 Newton Central.

Starting pitcher Lorenzo Pantaleo struggled in the 1st and 2nd innings but along with relief pitcher JC Pezzuto only allowed one more runner on base the rest of the game.

In the 2nd, the North End scored without the benefit of a hit, on a double steal by Tim Martin and Jase Cherch

The North End took the lead for good in the 3rd inning.

Consecutive hits by Fernando Soto, Pantaleo and Nate Wolf produced a run. Ariyand Aminpour was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Andrew Olivo singled to right scoring another run. Pezzuto had an infield hit scoring the go ahead run.

Owen Locke singled with one out in the 4th, reached second on a pass ball and scored on a sharp single by Vincent Coppola. Coppola raced to second on a ground out and moved to third when the Medfield first baseman wasn’t paying attention to him. He scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the 5th Wolf opened with his third hit, Thomas Marchi followed crushing the next pitch for his fourth home run in eleven Suburban League games.

Consecutive singles by Olivo, Pezzuto and Martin scored another run. The team would manage another run before the game ended.

North End wins 9-7 moves on to semi-finals

Owen Locke hit a two out two run single in the top of the 6th inning breaking a 7-7 tie propelling the North End All Stars into the Suburban League semi-finals against Pembroke that posted a 10-1 record, losing only to the North End.

The 9-7 win over Newton Central gives the hometown team an impressive 8-4 record.

Ariyand Aminpour started the two out rally with a hard hit ball that the Newton second baseman couldn’t handle. He advanced to second on a pass ball. An infield hit by Jase Cherchi placed runners at the corners.

Cherchi stole second without a throw from the catcher. On a two strike pitch Locke ripped a shot up the middle scoring both base runners and a 9-7 lead.

A four run 1st inning got the North End team an early lead. Fernando Soto singled and Lorenzo Pantaleo walked. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Nate Wolf ripped a single to center scoring both runners.

Thomas March singled and walks to Andrew Olivo, Tim Martin and Aminpour gave the North End a 4-0 lead.

Newton responded with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning making the score 4-2.

The North End scored two more runs of their own for a 6-2 lead. Locke singled and with one out Soto walked, Wolf singled to center scoring Locke and placing runners at the corners. Wolf was thrown out stealing with Soto scoring.

The score held at 6-2 until Newton picked-up five 4th inning runs taking a 7-6 lead.

The North End tied it 7-7 in the 5th. Soto led off with a line drive single to left, stole second and moved to third on an infield hit by Marchi. Soto and Marchi pulled off a double steal tieing the game.

After a two run North End 6th, JC Pezzuto came on to pitch and struck out the side in the bottom of the inning and got the Newton team out 1, 2, 3 on three consecutive ground balls.
