Indians Claw Tigers 10-6

Lead off Tigers hitter Mike Leavitt legged out a double, took third on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Jackson Stanton for a 1-0 first inning lead over the Indians in a NEAA Majors Baseball contest at Langone Park.

The tribe tried to answer back in the home half of the first when Jase Cherchi singled and attempted to score on a double by Nick Shea.

Cherchi was cut down at the plate on a perfect relay from the centerfielder to the shortstop to the catcher. Possibly one of the top 10 plays of the year. Paul Szulic collected his first of seven RBIs doubling to left center scoring Shea tying the game at 1-1.

Both starting pitchers hurled 1, 2, 3 second innings.

A five run third inning put the Tigers on top 6-1. William Parsons tripled, Alexis Scalia and Evan Frechette walked loading the bases.  Leavitt lined a 2 RBI single followed by another walk to Jackson Stanton. Jimmy Alcott singled home a run and his brother Charlie Alcott followed with a 2 RBI hit.

The Indians picked up a run in the third.  Shea walked,  Szulic hit into a fielder’s choice and stole second base, Zach Taieb singled home Szulic for a 6-2 Tigers lead.

The Tigers went quietly in the fourth but not the Indians who would close the gap to 6-5.

Isabella Vilar led off with a walk, following a strikeout, Domenic Orlando walked placing runners on first and second base and Cherchi walked loading the bases. The next batter struck out. A clutch three run triple with two outs by Szulic unloaded the bases and the Indians were within a run.

Vinny Coppola’s single lead off the fifth inning, Brianna Woods and Isabella Vilar both walked once again loading the bases for the Indians. Cherchi picked up an RBI walk, Shea singled home a run followed by Szulic’s second 3 RBI triple of the game and a 10-6 Indians victory.
