Cardinals Beat Cubs 2-1

The Cardinals took over second place in the North End Athletic Association Majors Baseball League edging the Cubs 2-1.

Cubs took a quick first inning 1-0 lead on a walk to Colman Shea and a triple by Michael Pittore who was cut down at the plate trying to stretch his hit into an inside the park home run.

The Cards tied the score in the bottom of the home half of the first on a two out walk to Andrew Olivo who reached second on a wild pitch and then stole third base. Owen Locke got the first of his three hits driving home Olivo.

Pitching took over as the Cubs could only manage a walk and Pittore’s second triple of the game. Pittore was stranded at third when Cards pitcher JC Pezzuto struck out the side.

Owen Locke hurled two scoreless innings for the Cards keeping the game tied at 1-1.

Olivo shut down the Cubs in the fifth and sixth innings allowing only a groundball to first.

The Cards threatened to score in the third and fifth innings but the Cubs closed the door keeping the score knotted at 1-1.

The Cards went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth with one out Pezzuto ripped a single to center, Ari Aminpour hit a ground ball to third but the third baseman threw the ball in centerfield allowing Pezzuto to take third. When the relay throw got away Pezzuto raced home with the game winning run.
