NEWRA Opposes/Supports New Liquor Licenses

-By Phil Orlandella

Both the NEWRA and NEWNC voted to support a new Beer and Wine License for Volle Nolle, 351 Hanover Street.

There were two requests for new beer and wine licenses on last week’s North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association agenda.

The Association voted 29-10 to support a request by Torri Crowell for a new 7-Day CV Malt and Wine License with a closing hour of 11pm at Volle Nolle, 351 Hanover Street. The restaurant already has a 7am to 11pm operating license.

At the same meeting the Association opposed by a vote of 18-21 a request by Carla Gomez who is seeking a CV 7-Day Malt and Wine License at Cafe Lil Italy, 178 Salem Street. Gomez was represented by local Attorney Daniel Toscano. This request was also opposed by NEWNC at their last meeting.

NEWRA supported a request by a vote of 31-8 by the owner of Artu Restaurant to expand its indoor non-live entertainment license to allow taped music and on TV in the entire 99 seat eatery and to expand the non-live license from 11pm to 2am.

The Association also supported a request by Esmail Mahdavi to change the legal occupancy at 196 Endicott Street from a three to a four family dwelling, four luxury condos. The vote was 25-15 to support.

Tia’s at Long Wharf, Inc., 200 Atlantic Avenue, Lori Lilly apparently withdrew her proposal for an entertainment license to allow amplification of music on the outside patio.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
