Eleanor Mongiello

Medford resident

Eleanor H. (Maglione) Mongiello of Medford, formerly of the North End, died on May 4.

Born and raised in the North End, she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Mongiello; devoted mother of Joseph Mongiello and his wife, Roberta, of Medford and the late James Mongiello; loving grandmother of Joseph Mongiello and his wife, Lauren, Jaida Mongiello Higgins and her husband, Brian, Jamilee Kelly and the late Nicholas Kelly; loving great-grandmother of Joseph, Gianna, Skyla and Shane.

Salvatore Cascio

Former operator of Wally’s Spa in the North End

Salvatore A. Cascio of Medford died on May 2.

Born and raised in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Giuseppi and the late Philippa (Nanfria) Cascio, he served in the US Army during World War II and was a combat veteran of the Pacific. After the war, he operated Wally’s Spa in the North End and eventually settled in Medford where he worked for many years with the City’s Highway Department. He was a member of the VFW Post 1012 and supported various veterans causes.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (DiSisto); devoted father of Marie Hartigan and Eileen Cascio, both of Medford; dear father-in-law of the late Robert Hartigan; loving grandfather of Marie Dilger, Melissa Hartigan, Cynthia Hartigan, Robert Hartigan and Paula Galdo and loving great-grandfather of Jackson Dilger. He was the brother of the late Frank Cascio and Frances Valvo.

Arnold Edelstein

US Postal Service Clerk

Arnold Edelstein of Winthrop, formerly of Chelsea, died on May 4 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 94 years old.

A resident of Winthrop for 57 years, he was born and raised in Chelsea, attended the Chelsea School System, was a Chelsea High School graduate, Class of 1934 and a graduate of Louisiana State University Class of 1941. He was a postal clerk at the South Postal Annex and a proud US Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Winthrop, a very avid fan of all Boston sports teams and an avid gardener and green thumb.

He was the beloved husband of the late Leatrice Edelstein; the devoted father of J. David Edelstein and his fiancé, Lynn Bruno, Stephen Edelstein and his partner, Joyce Atkinson, and Joel Edelstein and his wife, Lori Rosenberg; the dear brother of Selma Sherman, the late Irving (Memo) Edelstein and the late Charlotte Gantman. He was also the loving grandfather of AJ, James, Jaclyn, Sophie, Lucy and Tamerat George.

Richard Mario ‘Ricky’ Costa

Former North End resident

Richard Mario “Ricky” Costa, formerly of the North End of Boston, died April 22.

He was the beloved son of the late Clara and Mario Costa; brother of the late James (Jimmy) Costa, Dolores (Dolly) Siciliano and uncle of Mark Della Penna; father of Louis Richard Costa, Jason Costa and the late Tina Marie (Costa) Hauswirth and grandfather of Megan and Eddie Hauswith; brother of Clara Clemente, Jacqueline Martins, Lenore Martins and Virginia (Ginger) Coldwell. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Burial was private.
