North End Clean-Up Campaign Starts April 30

One of the most unique North End clean streets campaign “Spazzare!” will kick-off this Saturday, April 30 at 8:45am at the Paul Revere Mall (Prado) across from St. Stephen Church.

The campaign for cleaner streets is the idea of Dave Grant, a Battery Street resident and Chair of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association’s Clean Streets Committee.

The goal of the project is to place brooms and dustpans on the eleven trash receptacles located on Hanover Street in any attempt to have residents, tourists and the business community to take the time to help keep the neighborhood clean by using the equipment readily available on the receptacles.

The campaign is also expected to be an awareness promotion to remind everyone that residents want their community kept clean and they are ready to participate in the endeavor for cleaner streets.

Three elected officials, Senator Anthony Petruccelli, Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Boston City Councilor Sal; LaMattina have supported the campaign and have each taken out full page ads announcing the new clean-up campaign.

The Department of Public Works has agreed to provide some brooms and attach them to the trash receptacles along Hanover Street.

“This has to be a community effort to work,” Grant said. “Everyone’s participation will help keep our streets and sidewalks cleaner.”
