City Plans to Release Cargo Truck Route Study

-By Phil Orlandella

Reportedly, a draft report will be issued this May by the Boston Transportation Department regarding a promised study of alternative hazardous cargo trucks route through the North End/Waterfront community, according to Nicole Leo of the Mayor’s Office.

Originally the study was scheduled to be available in August 2010, that date was changed to April 2011 and now it’s May.

“Meanwhile, hazardous cargo trucks continue to use the Charlestown Bridge, North Washington Street, Cross Street and other surface roads along the Greenway,” NEWRA member David Kubiak pointed out at community meeting.

Apparently once the study is completed BTD plans to file it with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and then hold a public meeting.
