FOCCP Columbus Day celebration attracts hundreds

While this year’s Columbus Day main activities took place on the other side of the tunnel in East Boston, that didn’t stop the Friends of Christopher Columbus from holding their Annual Columbus Day Celebration at the popular park.

Hundreds of people were at the park for the opening day parade which was led by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Italian Consul Luigi Munno and other dignitaries.

The Mayor placed a wreath at the statue of the famous navigator.

Face painting and a musical petting zoo was sponsored by North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC).

The Greenway Conservancy provided a bean bag toss, tic, tac, toe, hula hoops and other games.

The City Stage Company provided interactive play.

The crowd was entertained by the Tanglewood Marionettes.

Singer Mariana Iranzi also entertained the participants and Magician Peter O’Malley did his magic act.
