Ichabod Crane/Headless Horseman coming to Old North Church

Looks like Icabod Crane and the Headless Horseman will be passing by the Paul Revere statue in the Prado on their way to Sleepy Hollow at the Old North Church for a presentation of Washington Irving’s classic tale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Old North Illuminated has partnered with Crescendo Productions to present The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: A Musical Reading that brings these two characters back to life inside the candlelit, 303-year-old sanctuary of Boston’s oldest church in the North End.

Actor Johnny Kinsman will deliver a dramatic recitation of the story, paired with an original score performed live a three-piece ensemble with Josiah Reibstein on bass, Joe Kessleron fiddle and Tev Steving on banjo.

Guests who want to delve further into the church can add a 20-minute guided Crypt Tour descending beneath the floor boards of the church to learn the stories of the 37 brick tombs holding remains of roughly 1,100 early Bostonians.

Two performances will be held on Friday, October 9 at the church, 193 Salem Street the first at 5:30pm and the second at 7pm with doors opening 30 minutes before each show. Crypt Tours run at 6:30pm and 8pm.
