FOCCP fundraising Cruise a terrific success
This year’s Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) annual Boston Harbor Sunset Cruise was a fabulous fundraiser, with a first for a FOCCP event, a marriage proposal took place while sailing on the harbor.
More than 100 people boarded the Odyssey and enjoyed a successful evening of dining on a delicious buffet while cruising the harbor.
Guests had a chance to buy a key that could unlock a Treasure Chest filled with more than $1100 of gift certificates.
In addition, the bidding was hot on 20 silent auction items valued at more than $10,000.
Funds raised will support the FOCCP Park’s Fall Festival on Saturday, October 19.
Boston Harbor City Cruises donated the ship as they have done in the past. Many local merchants contributed to the FOCCP fundraising as they have done in the past as well.
“Our 2024 Sunset Cruz was a great success,” FOCCP President Joanne Reyes Hines said.
Sumner Tunnel Project will be completed the end of November
Shut down since July 5, the Sumner Tunnel has re-opened after four-weeks of work.
The project began in April 2022 as a 160 million investment in the state’s infrastructure.
Following a limited number of planned weekends closures in the fall, the project will reportedly be completed by the end of November.
NEWNC/NEWRA meetings
Both the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) and the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) did not hold a monthly meeting during the month of August but have scheduled September meetings at 6:30 PM at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
Meetings will be held for NEWNC on Monday, September 9 and NEWRA Thursday, September 17.
One of the items on both agencies is a proposal for the development of 60-70 Parmenter Street from Hanover to Salem Street by DePasquale Ventures.
These are both public meetings. Two chances for residents to express their opinions.
Two largest North End feasts
Two of the largest North End feasts are just days away.
Both the Fisherman’s and St. Anthony’s feasts, as usual, are expected to draw thousands of feasts goers into the neighborhood.
Both religious groups have been working closely with the city and police department to ensure that both events are safe to those attending the feasts as well as residents.
Large items and back packs will be checked at the entrances to the festivals. In addition, if the feast becomes over crowed (most of the time they do) entrance to the feasts will be temporarily delayed until the number of attendees start to clear out.
Madonna del Soccorso (Fisherman’s feast) August 15, 16, 17, 18 on North Fleet and Lewis Streets Sunday procession 1pm. Flight of the Angel 8pm.
St Anthony’s feast August 23, 24, 25 on Endicott, Thacher, and North Margin Streets. Procession Sunday 12 noon.
NEW Health recognizes a generous donor
NEW Health at the recent National Health Week launched its community care society,
The new society is a leadership annual giving organization comprised of individuals and businesses who donate $500 or more on an annual basis.
During the week of many health-related events, NEW Health recognized one of its most generous donors, Laura Kheir, a neighbor and friend of the Center makes generous monthly donation to the Center’s community fringe program and has become an inaugural member of the new care society.
Laura and her family support NEW Health because of the “good doing here in our own community.”
The Center hopes that more residents and businesses give something back to the community and become an inaugural member of the care center.
FOCCP annual Festival/October 19
Always a very popular community events, the Fall Festival, coordinated and hosted by the Friends of Christopher Columbus, (FOCCP) will feature many activities, events for children and adults.
The neighborhood event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 9 starting at 12 noon.
It seems that this neighborhood fun filled event gets bigger and better each year and the attendance appears to get much bigger as well.
Get out with the family and enjoyed another community event hosted by FOCCP.
Correction
Last issue it was reported that the 2024 Championship NEAA Little League (Majors) was the wrong team.
St. Agrippino Feast Society was in fact the champions. Sorry.
