West End student on Mayor’s Youth Council

A group of 85 high school students were sworn in by Mayor Martin Walsh to serve on the 2019-2020 Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) that will improve Boston’s communities and empower other young people throughout the City.

The group, including a West Ender, will advise the Mayor and his Administration on policy and programming important to youth.

“Being on the Mayor’s Youth Council for the past two years has allowed me to develop my leadership skills, as well as provide the opportunity to learn about issues beyond my neighborhood, school and community,” said Laurie Goldfield 18, of the West End.

“It has provided me with the platform to speak on issues I’m passionate about and work with other likeminded youth to build solutions,” she added.

At the ceremony the Mayor told members, “To have the potential to be powerful agents of change and confront issues in their neighborhoods, school community and within city government.”
