No Real Answer to Opioid Problem

Opioid use has simply become an epidemic that has created zombies roaming the neighborhood streets that probably don’t even remember their own names.

Educating people of this serious and dangerous problem has apparently not worked and the medical solutions have not lived up to their expectations.

There is ample time and energy taking place to help resolve the opioid crisis but if it is not effective, it’s time to turn the page and attempt to seek new answers to address this epidemic.

Corner Café Supports Community Sports

Corner Café owner Richie Longo has been sponsoring North End sport teams for about twenty-five years.

Take the local softball league for example, the Café has ruled the roust capturing 18 championships, a record that may never be broken.

Due to renovations at the local park, Longo will have to wait until 2020 to pick up his 19th crown.

However, in between, the Café picked up another championship trophy in the form of a baseball men’s 21 and over traveling team he sponsored.

Corner Café also helps many of the community events and activities in the neighborhood and should be recognized for his commitment to the community.

Eliot School Opening a True Endeavor

It was a proud day for everyone involved when the brand-new Eliot K-8 School officially opened for the 2019-2020 school session in the North End.

The end result of this monumental task was the outstanding cooperation and intervention of many individuals, elected officials and public agencies that took the bull by the horns and made it happen.

Two North End Halloween Parties Topped the Chart

One of the best annual North End Halloween parties was the 4th annual ROC bash that had plenty to do for participates, including entertainment and food.

The popular and well attended neighborhood spooky day event seems to get bigger and better as the years go by.

Another Trick or Treat day was held by the Madonna Della Cava featuring a costume parade through the streets of the neighborhood.

The 48th annual community event also featured prizes, gifts, games and more.

The special day of events attracted numerous participants that enjoyed the day and parade.

Friends of Library Produce Many Happenings

Friends of the North End Library continue to produce and sponsor quality activities, events and programs of interest and education to the neighborhood.

The all-volunteer, non-for a group also works closely with the library staff to create many things to do for all age groups, that are truly fun and a learning experience.

Thanksgiving Day a Family Tradition

Thanksgiving Day is a time for family get-togethers to reflect on the good things that occurred throughout the years and to be thankful to be an American and all it means.

A tradition, a day to enjoy with family and friends and something positive to look forward to in the future.

People celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways but the end results is always a good family day.

Help Keep the North End clean

Street cleaning in the North End has been discontinued for the year but does not mean residents and the business community should stop helping to keep the neighborhood clean and healthy

There are still some people taking the time to clean the area in front of their homes and businesses on a regular basis and that’s a good thing.

However, more people should join in for a cleaner neighborhood. It only takes a minimum of time to be a part of this community endeavor.
