Weekend Closures on Certain MBTA Stations Planned

A series of weekend shutdowns on the Green Line, Red Line and Orange Line for system upgrade projects geared towards improving reliability for riders, requiring shuttle service around certain stations.

MBTA also announced a plan to undertake additional accelerated plans in the near future as part of the $8 billion, five-year plan modernizing the transit system.

Divisions in service will be an inconvenience in the short term but according to T officials these shutdowns will allow them to quicken the pace of investments in the system more efficiently and effectively.

The accelerated plan will be inconvenient for riders but necessary to improve the system that has been neglected for decades, the T reported.

“The MBTA will continue to evaluate upcoming projects for the fall and next year for additional opportunities to accelerate work wherever possible,” according to Gov. Charlie Baker.

NEHS Planning 10th Anniversary Celebration

The North End Historic Society (NEHS) was officially established on Dec. 17, by residents that met at Cross Street location of Café Graffiti who were interested in forming an organization to take on the need for a Historic Society for Boston’s most storied neighborhood.

After teaching a class in the North End at Boston University in October 2008, Jim Pasto and Alex Goldfeld discussed the need for a historical society, and the absence of one in the North End.

They eventually gathered with others who were also interested in forming a group including original board member Phyllis Vitti. That night NEHS is was born, 10 years ago.

NEHS is planning a 10th anniversary event on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. with a very special guest. More details will be provided soon.
