Cardinal O’Malley to Celebrate Mass at Saint Leonard Church

On Sunday, May 26, the 12 noon Mass at Saint Leonard Church will be celebrated by Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston.

He will also bless the new pipe organ and wooden-carved statues of St. Francis and St. Clair, founders of the Franciscan family.

Beehives Placed on The Greenway

Celebrating 10 years of The Greenway, The Greenway Conservancy has announced the 2019 installation of beehives on the park.

Building on The Greenway’s 2016 creation of the organization’s Pollinator Ribbon, the beehives are part of the Conservancy’s sustainable park initiatives which include organic land care and the creation of a wildflower meadow on the block north of the park.

Pipe Organ Recital

To celebrate the installation of the new pipe organ at Saint planet Church in organ recital by internationally renowned Maestro David Reccia Chynoweth will be held on Friday, May 24, at 6 p.m.

Defending Baseball Champs Tie

Defending North End Athletic Association (NEAA) Major League Baseball 2018 Champions “Regional Review Cubs” open the 2019 season with a 3-3 extra inning tie with the Tomasone Tigers. Both teams played well during cold weather conditions.

National Anthem

On Baseball Opening, North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) student Hannah McKeena, performed the National Anthem with a Color Guard from the US Coast Guard station on Commercial Street. She received a rousing ovation from everyone in attendance.

Public Safety Meeting

The next North End/Boston Police Public Safety meeting will be held on Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m. in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

NEWNC Monthly Meeting

The North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) public meeting will be held on Monday, June 10, at 7 p.m. at the Nazzaro Community Center.

NEWRA Monthly Meeting

The next North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the Nazzaro Community Center.

The Greenway Celebrates 10th

A celebration of The Greenway’s ten years on the Park be held on Tuesday, June 6, at 6 p.m. The fundraiser will benefit the innovative programming in the decades to come.

Combat Zone Presentation

Combat Zone, the stripped down town streets of Boston’s Most Notorious Neighborhood one of an adult entertainment districts in the Nation will be hosted by the Friends of the North End Library on Wednesday, May 29, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Under the Strawberry Moon

American Heritage Park on The Greenway invites supporters, partners and friends to meet and greet under the Strawberry Moon on Thursday, June 27, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Participants can walk the moonlit labyrinth and enjoy Vicki Lee’s chocolate dipped strawberries, refreshing MEM Ice Tea and the Berlee Jazz Trio.

NSC Trip to Rockport

A Rockport Day Trip will be held by the North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) on Wednesday, May 29. Limited to 50 people, must pay the $25 fee by Wednesday, May 22. To reserve a spot call 617-523-8125.

Bike To Work Festival

Boston’s National Bike To Work Day Festival, part of the 2019 Boston Bike series program will take place on Friday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting at City Hall Plaza.

NSC Bouna Sera

ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) will hold its 9th annual Bouna Sera, an evening with friends on Thursday, October 3. For details call 617-523-8125.

Gardening on The Greenway

Gardening on The Greenway’s Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Crescent Gardens takes place each Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are welcome.

Nazzaro Center   New Hours

The BCYF Nazzaro Center will be changing its hours of operation during the summer months due to staffing issues as well as the operational needs of the Mirabella Pool.

The schedule is as follows: Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays & Sundays closed. The schedule will remain in effect from June 15 to September 2, 2019.

FOCCP Monthly Meeting

Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mariners House, 11 North Square, 2nd Floor.

NEWNC Annual Election/May 18

North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) will hold its annual election of board members on Saturday, May 18 at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All residents are encouraged to vote.

City Winery on The Greenway

This May, Boston’s first outdoor wine garden, City Winery on The Greenway will open at Dewey Square on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 PM-10 PM, Saturdays from 1 PM -9 PM and Sundays 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

NSC Free Lunch Programs

Anyone that would like to participate in the North End Neighborhood Service Center’s free lunch program should call 617-523-8125 to reserve a spot for future meals. New clients must sign up to receive membership with ABCD. All luncheons will be announced in the timely fashion.

Old North New Hours

The Old North Church has expanded its hours of operation from now through October 31, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. 7 days a week. The church is always open for public worship between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sundays.

Exploring New Flavors

The 2019 Greenway Food Truck Program officially kicked off this week, the Conservancy is excited to welcome 36 new and returning vendors to The Greenway this season.

Mobile Eats on The Greenway

A new season of Greenway Mobile Eats is underway featuring 36 full tracks and carts with flavors from around the world offering a variety of affordable, unique cuisine from seven different locations across the park.

Seven new vendors for 2019 have been added to the popular event.

BCYF Seeks Lifeguards

Homework Help

The North End Library, 25 Parmenter Street will provide homework help for kindergarten through grade six on Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m.

Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts are held every other Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Villa Michelangelo. For more information call 617-523-8125.          In class, seniors use their muscles in their hands and arms and engage in planning and critical thinking, while being with the peers.

Past projects have included painting, flower design, centerpieces, collages and masks. Material for projects will be provided. For more info call 617-523-8125.
