Great Molasses Spill memorial should be established

Creating a new memorial dedicated to the North End Great Molasses Spill that occurred just over 100 years ago, is a terrific idea that should be fully supported by the neighborhood.

While tragic, it is in fact part of the community’s history and should be seriously considered for implementation, along the Harborwalk in the North End.

A memorial depicting the incident that received worldwide attention should finally be displayed in the community that experienced the catastrophe.

Natale named president

It was a wise move electing life-long resident Luigi Natale President of the newly formed North End Sons and Daughters of Italy, Chapter.

A community activists Natale has made it known that the local chapter will be involved with community issues, events and activities.

He also wants to continue the Italian heritage in the neighborhood by preserving its cultural history.

Natale will spearhead the chapter into a viable community asset.

FOCCP does it again

Once again, Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) deserves recognition for their outstanding commitment towards having a New Year’s Eve fireworks display on Boston Harbor creating a 2019 spirit for thousands of people.

This is the second consecutive year FOCCP has made this very special holiday event possible.

FOCCP puts its best foot forward soliciting many sponsors to make the sky light up bringing in the New Year 2019.

NBSS President moves on

During his time as President of North Bennet Street School (NBSS) Miguel Gomez-Ibanez has been a great neighbor of the North End community.

He has always been cooperative with providing information relating to the school’s resources and working closely with the neighborhood and its many organizations.

He is well known for caring about the community in general.

North End landmark requests should be honored

Landmark status should be given for the perimeter walls of the Bath House and Polcari Playground in the North End.

Currently the home of the Nazzaro Community Center, the Bath House is over 100 years old in local history and deserves some kind of protection for the unique design of the exterior structure.

Landmark status will also provide protection for some of the public space that the playground represents.             Hopefully, the Landmark Commission feels the same way as the community and moves forward with the request by North End residents for landmark status.
