January 2019 A-1 Public Safety Meeting Report

Boston Police District A-1 provided North End / Waterfront residents an update on recent neighborhood crime incidents, summarized below, at the January 2019 North End Public Safety Meeting.

Robberies (1)

– 12/17/18 at 9:45 p.m. (29 Prince Street): Victim reports he was walking down Prince Street when he was approached by three male suspects (between the ages of 16-18, between 5’8 and 5’10). At this time, one of the suspects stated, “Give me everything in your pocket.” Victim handed over his iPhone and $20 in cash.  Suspects fled on foot.

Breaking & Entering – Commercial (1)

– Between 12/18/18 (10:30 p.m.) and 12/19/18 (10 a.m.) at 329 Hanover Street (Sol Optics Boston): Police Officer responded to a commercial breaking and entering at a Hanover Street eyeglass store. Manager reports the front glass door was smashed and two glass display cases were damaged. Manager further stated 53 pairs of sunglasses were stolen (collectively valued at $18,000). Detectives to follow-up and review video of the incident.

– Assault & Battery / 209A: North Street – Domestic violence incident.

In 2018, there was 0% change in Part 1 Crime and a 10-year low in Part 1 Crime. These are crimes classified as serious felonies and used by the FBI to produce the annual crime index. As defined by the U.S. Dept. of Justice, this includes criminal homicide, rape (legacy and revised), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson. David Marx hosts the monthly Public Safety meeting with Boston Police District A-1. North End Public Safety Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month, 6:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet Street. All are welcome to attend and bring their questions.
