Friends Hold Boat Trip to Thompson Island

Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands will hold its annual “Seafarers Island Holiday” boat trip to Thompson Island, where participants can enjoy and explore meadows, beaches, forests and a 40-acre saltmarsh through a guided tour.

The New Year’s Day event, Tuesday, January 1, 2019, a tradition since 1980, will have an indoor warm-up space with hot drinks.

Dress warmly and pack a lunch, no food will be sold on the boat or island. Park policy is no pets and no alcohol.

Visitors to the island have seen snowy owls, white owls, migrating ducks and seabirds.

The boat MV Freedom departs from Massachusetts Bay Lines, 60 Rowes Wharf, Boston, at 12 p.m. and returns to the dock at 4 p.m. Boarding begins at 11:30 a.m. The nearest T Station are South Station (Red Line) and Aquarium (Blue Line).

For tickets and information visit www.fbhi.org or call 781-740-4290. In case of inclement weather, check the FBHI website and phone for updates.
