Christopher Columbus Park celebrates Fall Festival Oct. 13

Friends of Christopher Columbus Park’s annual Fall Festival is a free neighborhood event, which draws people of all ages from across the city and surrounding suburbs each year.  This year fun event will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, from 12-4 p.m.

The festival will kick off with a parade of children marching around the Park starting promptly at noon.  All children are invited to join in this fun parade, which will be led by a clown on stilts – a sight not to be missed!  Following the parade, the day will be filled with a wide variety of entertainment including face painting, pumpkin painting and arts and crafts. Performers include Rosalita the Puppeteer, the Trolls and Peter O’Malley the Magician.   Games on the west lawn will fill out a day of fun and laughs.

“Friends of Christopher Columbus Park loves hosting this Fall Festival each year,” Ann Babbitt, FOCCP vice president and event chair said. “The park is wonderful all year and is extra special on a beautiful fall day.”

Pride Day Bocce Tournament winners

North End Against Drugs (NEAD) North End Pride Day featured the Johnny Paolo Bocce Tournament.

The event is organized in memory of the late North End resident who put the bocce tournament to gather each year.

The tournament was competitive and managed by Johnny’s daughter Linda Lopriore and Mike Giannasoli.

“It was a good tournament that help raise money for NEAD,” President John Romano said. “At the same time, we remember Johnny for his commitment to organizing the tournament and his involvement with NEAD as well.”

First place and second place winners were presented trophies by Mike Giannasoli, Linda and Johnny’s wife Mary Jane.

 

North End Halloween Party scheduled

This year’s North End Halloween Party, hosted by the Nazzaro Community Center and North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC), will be held at the Center’s outdoor courtyard on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 3-7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public and includes pizza, cider, games, bouncy houses, a haunted house, arts and crafts, face painting and an instrument petting zoo.

Children are encouraged to dress in a costume.

 

City forms Bureau of Community Engagement

Formation of the Bureau of Community Engagement has become a new unit of the Boston Police Department, according to Commissioner William Gross.

Charged with overseeing a citywide effort to further strengthen community policing in Boston, the Bureau will focus on ways to build relationships and trust between law enforcement and residents.

“Boston is a model city in the nation for having strong police community relations,” Mayor Martin Walsh said. “With this Bureau, we are doubling down on our efforts to connect with residents in their neighborhood and offer a hand of support.”

Newly appointed Superintendent Nora Baston will serve as the Bureau Chief.
