NEWRA Votes on Four Agenda Items

Four voting items were on the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) October monthly meeting agenda.

NEWRA supported Rev. Stephen T. Ayers, Vicar and Executive Director of the Old North Church and Foundation request to apply for Boston Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for a grant to help make the Old North crypt handicap accessible. Over one million dollars is being requested. The CPA grant process requires neighborhood review.

A request by 33 N. Margin Street LLC to enclose the existing first or entranceway at 33 North Margin Street to increase the square footage on the first floor, increased the living space of the fourth-floor unit into the existing fifth floor space, add to the existing penthouse, and install a new roof deck for the exclusive use of the top or unit also received NEWRA approval.

Michael and Peta Prinn’s request to reduce the legal occupancy at 278 North Street from a four to three family dwelling, renovate the second, third and fourth stories, extend the living space into the basement, erect a new fifth story and install a new roof deck was deferred due to abutters complaints.

A proposal by Charter Cross Street LLC to change the legal occupancy at 198 Hanover Street to include Citizen Bank with an ATM was opposed by NEWRA. Citizen Bank will occupy the center of three bays in the new building.

NEWRA’s next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 7 PM in the Nazzaro Community Center according to President John Pregmon.
