BPDA passes Smart Utilities Policy

A Smart Utility Policy that will ensure that new large developments are taking steps to create a more resilient city has been passed by the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA).

The new policy was launched as a two-year program calling for the adoption of technologies aimed at preparing Boston’s utility infrastructure for the impacts of climate change, including increased flood risks, heat waves and stronger storms, reducing costs for end-users and reducing traffic congestion and roadway construction.

“We know in order to build a more resilient Boston, we must repair our infrastructure today for a changing climate,” Mayor Martin Walsh said.

 

BWSC honored for drinking water

Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) drinking water received honors from the American Water Association placing in the top five at the Tap Water Taste Test held in Nevada.

BWSC competed against cities from across the US, Canada and Mexico.

 

2026 FIFA World Coming to Boston/Massachusetts

The 68th FIFA Congress has elected the United Bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Greater Boston Convention + Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) partnered with the Kraft Union, the Mayor’s Office of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment and the Massachusetts Office of Tourism to showcase Boston and Massachusetts as a premium global destination and deserving host for the World Cup games in 2026.

 

Youth vote on $1 million spending

Three winning projects of the Youth Lead the Change, a participatory budgeting process, where youth Bostonians ages 12-25 decide how to allocate $1 million of the City’s Capital Plan.

They vote to: Place fans in schools that lack central air-conditioning, place a Youth Wi-Fi Lounge in City Hall and add solar panels on city owned property.

 

Low Number Plate Lottery

Applications for the 2018 Low Number Plate Lottery are currently available through the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles online at mass.gov/platelottery or by mail.

Some low plate numbers available are: 1400, 2558, 4J Y4, 55Z, 77V and Z81.
