Mayor’s Youth Council Seeks Members

There are many opportunities for Boston teens entering grades 9-12 to be an active participant in city government and civic engagement in a meaningful way, while making a difference in their neighborhood.

One of those ways is becoming a participant on Mayor Martin Walsh’s Youth Council, made up of 85 members that are committed to improving their communities.

Reportedly, the Council has been able to accomplish many things over the years by sharing their voices and ideas on the Council. “The Council helps ensure we are making decisions that reflect what young people in Boston need to make our city better,” Mayor Walsh said.

The Youth Council is an opportunity for teens to grow, learn and be a voice for other you while expressing neighborhood and city programs that will improve the city.

In the past year the MYC has worked on a variety of issues related to public safety and civic management. They also partnered youth organizations to write rules and oversee the implication of how the City spends $1 million of the budget.

            The MYC is overseen by Boston Center’s for Youth & Families (BCYF) Division of Youth Engagement & Employment. Northeastern University is a more time sponsor of the Mayor’s Youth Council. To learn more and to apply online visit boston.gov. The deadline is Monday, April 13, 2018.
