Bill Protecting Children and Older Students from Sexual Relationships Still in Committee

Potential legislation that would bar teachers and other school employees from having sexual relationships with their students, by raising the age of consent within schools and expanding the number of mandated reporters, has been proposed by police organizations.

The potential bill, was heard before the Joint Committee on Education, have the backing of several police chiefs, noting it would be one more layer of protection.

The legislation would require training to recognize the signs of sexual predators, expand the number of mandated reporters to include volunteers and coaches. It calls for the age of consent from 16 to 19 years of age. Punishment of no more than five years of prison and/or a$10,000 fine.

The bill such as this has been pushed for over a decade and those currently pursuing for passage hope they are near this becoming a reality.

            So, does the Regional Review.
