Friends of the North End Schedule 45th Reunion in Sept

By Phil Orlandella

The Sons of Italy Hall in Winthrop will be filled to capacity for the Friends of the North End 45th Reunion this September 16.

“Our reunion has become very popular over the years,” said Victor Passacantilli one of the organizers of the special event that draws hundreds of current and former North Enders to the reunion.

In addition to holding this event, the Friends have continuously made contributions to North End organizations.

“These local agencies receive an equal amount of donations,” Passacantilli noted.

Receiving funds will be North End Against Drugs (NEAD), North End Athletic Association (NEAA), St. John School, the Nazzaro Community Center, North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC), and St. Leonard’s Church. “A 50/50 drawing will be conducted to help provide funding to these worthy North End organizations,” Passacantilli said.

The event will be catered by Spinelli’s and food will be served at 6:30 PM. Wine will be provided at each table and a cash bar will be available. Doors will be open at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the reunion are $60.00 for the Saturday night event. Checks must be sent in by Sunday, September 9. Mail checks to Sam Viscione, 20 Hill Crest Road, Burlington, MA 01803. For details call 781-276-7674.

This year’s Coppola challenge question is… There were two storefront businesses on Unity Street when most of us were growing up in the North End-name them?

All responders with the correct answer will have their names placed in a hat and a winner will be drawn and given the 2017 WOZ Award at the reunion.

The 45th annual event, will bring many old friends together to reminisce about the good old days and what’s currently happening. There will be short and long stories told, some true, some partially true and stories that are totally untrue.

Passacantilli encourages former and current North Enders to attend the reunion which will be a fun filled and memorable event.
