Six New NEWNC Members Elected Uncontested

By Phil Orlandella

There were only six candidates for six two-year terms on the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) community election held on Saturday, May 20 in the Nazzaro Community Center, the only polling place.

That simply means all six candidates won seats on the community Board before the election even took place.

NEWNC, although making an effort to gain one more candidate to make the election a race, was unable to secure another candidate to make the election interesting.

John Pregmon, President of the 12-member neighborhood organization publicly stated the NEWNC by-laws state the “election must be held” no matter how many candidates are seeking election. He also made it clear the NEWNC by-laws overrule Robert’s Rules of Order.

Residents could vote for up to six candidates in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street. Polls were open from 10 AM to 2 PM. Ballots were counted immediately after the polls were close.

Pregmon at last month’s NEWNC meeting said “we’ll have to look into this situation for future elections.”

Election vote results: Tina Natali 48, Carmine Guarino 35, Sean Hennessey 25, Damien Paola 19, Tania Green 12 and Ashley McCarthy 8.
