An advisory board relating to the proposed artwork for North Square that has been coordinated by Maria Lanza of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services has been formed.
A and J Art and Design, based on neighborhood input has developed a concept, “North Square Stories: Four Intertwined Historical Threads†that they revealed at last month’s North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) public meeting.
The Director of the Boston Art Commission and North Square Project Karin Goodfellow also spoke at the neighborhood meeting and described the proposed four sculptures and bronze, finished with a patina that evokes nautical themes.
The designers Anne Hirsch and Jeremy Angier of A and J Art Concept and Design discussed the size of the sculptures which will be on a human scale, mounted on stone bases, and place in relation to key architectural features around the square on the Freedom Trail.
“Each sculpture echoes the character of the square as a small space looking outward to a big view,†according to the designers.
Several public meetings have been held in the neighborhood and the next one will be held on Thursday, May 11 at NEWRA’s monthly meeting in the Nazzaro Community Center at 7 PM.
