Boston Ranked National Leader in Public Health

Boston has received the highest ranking in a two-year analysis of US cities, compiled by the Boston Public Health Commission, an independent public agency.

The country’s oldest department, looked at health policies in place to help communities thrive and residents live healthier lives.

Boston was among five cities to receive the overall gold medal, ranking in five of the categories tracked by the Commission, silver in three and bronze in one.

Rankings were based on the number and strength of policies in nine categories: recommendations on employee benefits, education, affordable housing, active living, transportation, public safety, tobacco control, clean indoor air, food safety and nutrition.

Based on the Commission’s ranking, the City of Boston is excelling in providing and ensuring good health policies for its residents as a national leader in public health.

Developing solid policies relating to people’s well-being makes Boston a great place to live in.
