Public Safety Report:Bank and Two Pedestrian Robberies, Letter Opener Assault

Boston Police District A-1 provided an update on recent neighborhood crime incidents, summarized below, at the March 2017 North End Public Safety Meeting. The figures below cover the last 30 days period.

Part 1 Crime

-City-wide: Down 5%.

-District A-1: Up 12% (mainly due to a rash of robberies in early January, as well as car breaks where the cars were already unlocked).

Robberies – Person (2)

-2/8 @ 120 Salem Street @ 11:35 pm: 2 unknown white males (~ 18-25 years old), one of which was armed with a pocket knife, demanded victim to empty his pockets and give them his wallet. Someone on the street came to the victim’s assistance / yelled and suspects fled.

-2/9 @ 226 Hanover Street @ 2:15 am: 2 unknown white males (~ 22 years old) demanded money from victim. Victim refused to hand over money, but had a backpack stolen from him.

Robberies – Business (1)

-2/6 @ 309 Hanover Street (Eagle Bank): 2 suspects demanded $8,000, but only got away with $250. One or both suspects had been asked to remove a scarf that was covering at least part of their face(s).

Suspects matching same descriptions were arrested a couple of hours later after a robbery @ 75 State Street (Santander Bank) after dye pack exploded and suspects had attempted to hail a cab.

Aggravated Assault (1)

-66 Cross Street (The Juicery): Man pulled a letter opener and wa swinging it around and throwing objects, then left the premises. He was later stopped on Salem St. and arrested.

Breaking & Entering – Residential (1)

-2/23 @ 79 North Margin Street b/w 8.30am & 5.30pm: Victim came home to a broken-in apartment. Numerous items were taken (a DVD, wallet, loose change, etc.). Damage to front door (the door frame and lock).

Auto Theft (1)

-2/28 – 3/1 @ 230 Hanover Street between 10:15 pm & 12:01 am: Victim’s 2014 Mazda CX-9 was stolen. Car was parked and unattended, with the doors unlocked, and with the remote starter key inside the vehicle at the time the car was stolen. Victim was from Winchester, MA.

Larceny (2)

-381 Hanover Street: Copper wire stolen from rear of building.

-3/1 @ 11 Wiget Street @ 5:41 am: Resident heard her alarm go off when apartment rear glass door was opened. She went to investigate and noticed a male suspect standing on the fire escape, wearing dark clothing and holding a flashlight. The resident screamed, after which the suspect went back down the fire escape and fled. Rear glass door had been unlocked, but suspect never gained entry to apartment.

Larceny from Motor Vehicle (2)

-2/14 @ 5 North Margin Street: Sunglasses, $40 & dashboard camera were stolen.

-172 Salem Street: iPod & iPhone chargers, GPS, etc., were stolen.

Arrests (5)

-Robbery / Bank: 2 (discussed above)

-Aggravated Assault: 1 (discussed above)

-Trespassing / Disorderly Conduct: 2/8 @ 130 Endicott Street:

21-yr.-old white male was wandering the halls of an apartment building, shouting and knocking on doors. Was arrested after refusing to leave the premises.

-Trespassing / Threats: 1 Michelangelo Street: 61-yr.-old male (from Cleveland Place) had a No Trespass Order against him. Was asleep in the building. Made threats. Refused to leave and was arrested.
