NEWNC Postpones Action on Five-Story Building Request

By Phil Orlandella

Urban Core Development will have to wait until next month (March), to receive approval or denial from the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) for plans to build a new five-story, nine-unit residential dwelling at 173 Endicott Street.

The construction also includes garage parking on the first floor and a roof deck.

A motion not to take a vote and to refer the request to NEWNC’s March monthly meeting was passed based on numerous abutters and other residents’ concerns relating to size, a roof deck and windows protruding out over the sidewalk.

The petitioner agreed to possibly redo plans to satisfy the community’s concerns.

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz advised the Council of his legislation file related to Short-Term rentals.

He said, “The legislation would generate up to $50 million which could be used as funding for significant programs addressing the low and moderate income housing and address neighborhood issues as well.” (See story page 1)

Firefighters from the Hanover Street Station presented information on preventing firers especially during the winter months.
