Save Our North End Waterfront Group Awaits DEP Policy Change Ruling

The comment period relating to finalizing a temporary policy change in Boston Harbor by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has gone by the boards.

If DEP makes the policy official, it would have a direct impact on a proposal by Phillip DeNormandie’s plans to build a luxury hotel at Lewis Wharf on the North End Waterfront neighborhood.

Abutters, other Waterfront residents and a group calling themselves “Save Our North End Waterfront” (SONW) have opposed the hotel idea since it was originally announced.

They have vigorously endeavored to put a halt to the project for traffic problems and several harbor related issues dealing with pile fields and other water related issues.

Save Our North End Waterfront has mounted a media, letter writing and public awareness campaign to have DEP finalize its current temporary policy change that will apparently have a positive effect on the harbor and make it difficult to build a hotel on Lewis Wharf.

While the policy change is good news for opponents, it’s not over at this time. Besides the developer pulling out of the hotel proposal, there are options of appeal or possible suits.

SONW is apparently prepared to deal with any situation that might arise.

It’s now a wait and see situation.
